Ascent Trip ReportThis was a very easy hike, .75 miles to the summit on the red trail, and 1.5 back down on the North (yellow) trail. The yellow trail has a section that is fairly steep, but it also has a lot of not very steep hiking. Near the end of the hike down, there's a very wet muddy section, but otherwise, the trail is not wet at all. Today was absolutely beautiful - not cold and the colors are at about peak - this being the southern section of the Adirondacks, the fall foliage season lasts a little longer than the high peaks (or perhaps it's just that it starts a little later).
There are no views from the treed summit, unless you climb to the top of the fire tower, where you are treated to beautiful views of the surrounding lakes (Canada Lake, West Lake and Pine Lake) and the lower Adirondack Mountains. The parking lot was full when we returned to the car at about noon, and some people were parked out on Green Lake Road.
About .25 mile up the red trail, we saw a Marten about 15 feet off of the trail. He/she didn't seem very afraid of us, almost as curious of us as we were of it, while we snapped a bunch of photos.
