Ascent Trip ReportOn a foggy, drizzly, cool Sunday morning I found the Nokia building on Holmdel Road deserted, and I drove up past the building and up the steep road leading to Crawford Hill. The gate was open so I just drove through. As I arrived at the large field atop the hill, I saw a man in a pickup truck messing with a trailer but he ignored me and I just drove slowly past him.
I parked at the far end of the grassy area, and tagged the highpoint, on an obvious forested mini-ridge. I also walked over to the Horn Antenna, an extremely historic and important site that should be at least a National Monument. Then I headed back down the road. The pickup truck was now gone.
Near the base of the road the chain-link fence gate was now locked--I immediately had a very bad feeling that I was now in some kind of big trouble. But a second later I saw that I could very easily bypass the gate by driving on the grass to the left, and that other cars had done the same. The gate fence did not extend beyond the road at all. So it was a trivial matter to drive around, and gently go down a low curb, and make my escape.
I recommend that this point be visited on weekdays so that formal permission can be obtained to visit the site.
