Ascent Trip Report

From ESE, La Tet resr, reached via La Cabanasse, road to trailhead driveable to car park xxxx, (beware unpaved road beyond which leads to a hotel with parking for clients only). NB road to trailhead closed to traffic in summer; 2016 dates were 2 July to 4 Sept plus two weekends either side; otherwise apparently there's a shuttle bus from car park at start of road. Good trail with a little easy scrambling on final part of climb. 6h15 going fairly steady with plenty of stops.

After a midnight departure from Barcelona airport we make a fairly late 11.17 start on our hike, from upper trailhead. A few trail variations but we follow the Carlit lakes trail with signposts towards Pic Carlit (says 3h30 at start).

A few trail variations and great scenery. Beyond last lake a very clear trail continues, then climbing a steep ridge with a few variations and some easy scrambling (YDS 2+, not really 3). Arrive at main ridge and turn L with summit reached in a couple of minutes, marked with a metal cross (HP is boulder xxxx). Impressive steep drops and views across fine rocky corries, a few surrounding peaks identified, including Puigmal our target for tomorrow. Several other hikers, a few runners.

Half hour on top then down, nice late pm light, trailhead hotel by 1730 for a beer then back to Font-Romeu where we have a weekend apartment, restaurant dinner. Great day!
