Ascent Trip ReportToday was going to be a big day, a group of 7 of us were to meet up to attempt Jeff Davis Peak, a class 4 OGUL peak. On the drive in on Hwy 88 I decided to bag this easy peak, given I was running a half hour ahead of schedule. I parked at the Hams Station, and started walking up the poor road. After only a couple of minutes an SUV comes up on a side road and I knew it had to be one of the other Jeff Davis hikers. Turns out it is Laura Newman, also coming in via Highway 88 (everyone else came up via Hwy 50). She parked when the road got iffy and noticed me coming up behind her. Some version of "Kerry, is that you?" "Laura?" "I'm glad to see I'm not the only one crazy enough to be climbing this random hill in the middle of no where!" ensued. The lookout on top is abandoned, a replacement benchmark is found nearby. After getting the peak, we continued on our way to Jeff Davis where we would meet up in about an hour for the day's big adventure.
