Ascent Trip ReportWe flew in from Malaga in mainland Spain to bag this "top". The whole experience was rather unpleasant as Melilla seems to be populated by a high proportion of unsavory characters. Our first experience was of being warned away from the boundary fence with Morocco by military guards. We saw people living in tents in "no mans land" between the two countries. The walk itself was fairly easy, apart from the heat and carrying all our overnight things with us. We walked along a road and came to a bridge over an arroya with a group of Africans living under it. The summit itself is in pleasant parkland which afforded some welcome shade. There is no view from the top and the land continues to rise towards Morocco. The whole place is in need of some TLC and a general clean up of the rubbish that abounds. We were glad of the high numbers of Military personnel and Police who made us feel a little safer. We were glad to fly out next day and will not return. Ceuta will not be getting ticked off our list as we hear it is very similar to this province. |
