Ascent Trip Report6hr round trip mostly on paths, quite rough underfoot, about 1400m total ascent.
After our Jezerke ascent we find a hotel near Shkroder. Early start next morning for 5hr drive, uneventful except Fier has major roadworks and is more gridlocked even than usual.
Trailhead xxxx opposite xxxx bar with parking at start; man from bar comes out and confirms it's the way up 'Cika'. Obvious trail climbs gently up R from road to level area then various small paths lead up L thru scrub to grassy area with old concrete bunkers xxxx. From here route leads up ridge, pretty obvious, a few variations, cairns and paint markings.
After 1hr we traverse R across upper slopes of Qorres having done most of climb and at last start heading towards Cikes. Nice landscape with dark pines contrasting with white limestone and light green grass.
Two main summits along ridge, first xxxx is P86m by GPS; we pass L of it on way up but easier and nicer to go over. The second xxxx is P40 and neatly bypassed on its R by a decent trail. Main climb up to Cikes leads to a small rocky top then a narrow shattered ridge which is a nice scramble albeit exposed. The GPS tracks I used both passed L of this as did Petter Bjorstad's 2013 description, via a stony bowl. I preferred the scrambly ridge. There are two summits of similar height; the farthest (W) summit has the slightly larger cairn.
On way back I make 15min diversion for Qorres, which has a much larger cairn than Cikes and a lovely view of Cikes glowing in late pm sun (but no camera as Pete has phone for backup navigation in limited visibility). Awkward rubbly descent to main trail and jog down to catch up Pete. Down just before 6pm; 2hr drive round to Tepelene for Kendrevices tomorrow.
