Ascent Trip ReportLast day & the end of my 77 mile High Sierra Trail (HST) (& John Muir Trail (JMT) semi-speedy solo hiking trip. Definitely will do it again, hopefully not being rushed & actually enjoying what a beautiful hike it really is. Camped/Bivvied & tried to sleep the night before at Guitar Lake & woke up at 0100 for the headlamp summit push. Had to cross a couple of snowfields, but it was dark & cold enough that they were still frozen & stable (Descent was thawing a little, which made it a little sketchy, but nothing that serious.) I was blessed to see the beautiful sunrise from the summit. Made some friends at the top & the marmots didn't steal my stuff. Descent was down the infamous 99 switchbacks to the Whitney Portal, then hitchhiked to Lone Pine, then 3 days shuttle & bus back to Lodgepole & Wolverton on the opposite side of Sequoia to get back to my truck; an adventure in itself (among other things; witnessed a murder in Lancaster, no BS). Could go into extreme detail about the entire trip & the finite details of the climb... but maybe at another time.
