Ascent Trip ReportAscent from Boreas Pass. Great trail from there to saddle on SE side of peak, then..... nothing.........
I won't use the word "terrible", but really a crappy scree and talus slog, with 7 ( count 'em!) SEVEN false summits, three of them significant. The true HP of the ridge crest is at the far W end, and is shown on the map as being 5' higher than the eastern one. Pretty much too far apart and too close in elevation to discern via handlevel, which I did not bring along. We did some side-hilling on the way back, which was a bad idea, just go up and over and avoid the torture of loose flat quartzite plates the size of a deck of cards to a phone book perhaps.
Weather was iffy, and we got sprinkled on as we returned to the Pass. 3:15 up, 2:00 down or so. On the other hand, super views amongst the passing clouds of nearby peaks in full Fall Foliage colors. More hikers on the trail than we thought we would see on a Thursday, and many cars on Boreas Pass, which rates a 1 out of 10 on the 4WD scale. I would drive anything better than a Corvette up here, both sides.
This was a P2K climb for Ken J., I think he is approaching halfway in CO. I enjoyed climbing a peak I had seen a hundred times in passing, but never been up to. If you dig falsies and loose stuff, climb this peak! Might be better from the N or W ???
