Ascent Trip ReportWe left Redding at 5:30am took the 44 to the 89 and arrived at the trailhead at 7:30am. This is an easy Hike with a few Switchbacks. At the summit there were a few people and not much room, we all took turns at the peak taking each others pictures. When it started to get crowded we decided to loop the crater. There was no trail here just sharp rocks,on the other high side (which turned out to be Lassen Volcanic Wilderness High Point) there was a faint trail down into the crater. By now the summit was packed with humans. So we went down to the bottom of the plug and ate lunch. The only other person we saw at the bottom was a nice student for Berkeley doing some research. He told us the reason it was so crowed was because it was a free weekend into the park.I'm glad we started early. On the way down it was like a conga line coming up, I got sick of say Hi at about the 300th person. We left via the 89 south to the 36 coming out at Red Bluff. We had a little time left so we crossed the 5 and drove up Main st.thru the old part of town (got a Coke at an old drugstore) then turned on Adobe rd. and bagged Ide Adobe State Historic Park Highpoint. We then headed down the 5 to Sac. for a fashion show our friend was hosting. Needless to say we got back to L.A. at sunrise 27 hrs later.
