Ascent Trip Report

I fist checked out the access and parking since it was after hours. My boss surprised me with an announcement that we had to meet early in the AM in the hotel lobby and that took my opportunity to get up early with lamp and do hike as the sunrises in the morning. So as a consolation prize, I had a back-up hike to check out Signal Hill since it has around 800 feet of prominence and was within 15 minutes of the hotel and office. I found the entracne to the subdivision which is gated and just before it is a paved (with curb) access road that is it up at night and gated. Communication towers ahead! Then I drove down and found the TH to the wilderness trails of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. I parked after hours at the cul-de-sac at the end of Ridge Park Road near the TH for the Bommer Ridge Trail West Entrance. Then hiked up the residential road towards the tower. The lights of the City below surprised me how much higher I had driven up from the City below. Now I get the prominence. I hiked up the maintenance road without need of my headlamp as the moonlight gave me all the light I needed. There is a bunch of towers up there and no trespassing signs. Probably not the smartest time to do this "summit" so I got down and back to the car quickly. I then checked out the very cool trails to the east into the wilderness and knowing it was past the allowable time to be out in the park and I had already pressed my luck so I saved those hikes for another time.
