Ascent Trip Report

First of all, would not recommend doing this peak until later in the year. Temperatures reached the 100s (F) approaching midday. Started later than we'd hoped, around 0700. Parked on the south side of S22 opposite from the turn off for the trailhead (if you hit mile marker 32 heading east, you've gone too far). Picked up the use trail heading North - the spur to Villager was pretty obvious and made a useful point of reference. The use trail was fairly easy to follow. The ascent up onto the initial point of the spur from the floor was very steep. The rest of the ascent followed the same ridge line all the way to Villager. You're climbing nearly the entire time with only one or two flat areas. We stopped from 1100-1400 and camped under a rock/tarp structure for a brief respite from the sun. When it cooled off (only slightly), we sauntered on. We reached Villager Peak around 1600; the summit is marked by a large cairn on the western side of the peak. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset, had some dinner, and then camped out overnight. The peak offers several good, sheltered locations for a tent. After a nice sunrise the next morning, we started our descent at 0636 and reached the car just before 1000. I went through about 7-8L of water. Overall, a rather strenuous hike. Perhaps next time we'll wait until the weather cools off.
