Bri didn't think her car would make it past Queen mine so we parked and camped there for the night. And walked up the road for a mile to the Kennedy Point Saddle and a sign in box where we met a man named Ray who we welcomed onto our group.
The trail is pretty easy to follow up until points in the scree past the trail crest saddle (marked by a rock and log wind shelter). This is where the vegetation ends.
We met another loan hiker named Jeremy who's friend couldn't make it up so we welcomed him into our group. The four of us summited together.
Jeremy, Bri and I went on to summit Montgomery which was supposed to be only an extra mile but the trail is rather undefined and took longer than expected. We summited and signed the register. We crossed the state line into California at 12,880ft. And doubled back to the trailhead.
Jeremy gave us a ride to his campsite and after goodbyes, Bre and I hiked down to Queens Mine and drove out to Bishop to climb Buttermilk Boulders the next day.
My second peak in the 13,000ft range (I've done 12,000 and 14,000).
Hiked with Bri, Ray, and Jeremy.
