Ascent Trip Report

Climbed successfully from the northern trailhead, at Plocice (via Decani monastery). In a normal car, this trailhead is impossible to reach, and would involve a very long walk (necessary to split over 2 days). Fortunately, my contact in Kosovo has a 4x4, and we drove higher to his family who live in Plocice and parked the car there. From the village you must wind up on the road, and soon you will pick up markers leading to summit. It seems most other authors on here climb from the other trailhead at Erenik, and without a local guy to help, that way is probably the best option as reaching our trailhead without local knowledge would be difficult. Anyway, the walk itself is very nice, non-technical, and very quiet: we saw a group of 8 Czechs on the summit, and thats all. Total length around 16km, and about 8 hours. Scenery is stunning, and I wish we had a little longer to explore these mountains. The people are fantastic in Kosovo, and very welcoming. In Decan we stayed at Hotel Swiss: cheap, good location and lovely staff (hotel itself is average). Next stop Montenegro!
