|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Puy de Dôme|
| Elevation:||4806 ft / 1464 m|
Ascent Trip ReportEasy and free, albeit busy, parking at Col de Ceyssat on the D 68. A well graded path up the Chemin des Muletiers with regular benches with information signs and excellent views.
The summit area is somewhat overwhelmed by an extensive complex of buildings with train station, café, shop, visitor centre, Gallo-Roman temple ruins, a museum and a (very well defended) large transmitter compound on the true high point.
We got as high as legally possible and claim the ascent despite the fact that someone with wire-cutters might have got a couple of metres higher. Several orientation tables at the various aspects of the hill explain the details of this remarkable volcanic landscape and it was great to be able to look south towards the other mountains we'd climbed in the region.
