Ascent Trip Report

13:30 depart car @ brook hollow road;
14:11 arrive coll- trail junction, trail was gradual the first 1/2 mile until you turn up the red blazed path, you climb quite a bit until you reach some switchbacks, trail junction is right after you top out on switchbacks (approx 4 turns), start towards blackhead and thomas cole, trail up to blackhead was the first real steep section, legs were pretty tired so this slowed me down a bit, nothing major,
14:32 arrive summit of blackhead, there is no indication of the summit (cairn, geodetics marker, or tag- pretty much wherever you feel the highest point of the trail on the ridge is, great overlook with view just past summit, continued onward to thomas cole, hike to thomas cole was gradual and easy, hike up thomas cole was a lot shorter than I anticipated, summit is a rock you can sit on with a small cairn on it, Met Jim and Margaret here. Jim maintains all of the canisters in the catskills- great people, tucked behind them and followed them back from thomas cole.
14:50 arrive summit of thomas cole,
15:25 arrive summit of blackhead again,
continued on without Jim and Margaret;
steep descent into the col, trail junction 15:42, right on up the other side towards blackdome;
16:00 hit summit of blackdome; at this point in the afternoon it was pretty hot and that trail wasn't too difficult but had it's challenges,
took the blue trail down towards Acra point and the escarpment section of trail;
hit acra point junction at 16:28 after a pretty steep descent from the top of blackdome,
decided at this point to go for the 4th peak Windham High Peak as my 4th 3500 on this trip; I was bonking pretty hard since I hadn't eaten anything yet and was pushing like a savage on the climbing.

17:05, hit summit of acra point with some splendid views, trail was really easy along this section which I had anticipated. killed the time on this section.
17:20 descent into big hollow trail junction; not a long climb down, sign said 2 miles to the wind ham summit, had to press on.
at this point I was pretty beat physically and wanting to just get it done.
this section really has two smaller peaks and then the last one of windham, the smallest climbs were not too bad, medium was getting to me, and the final climb up to wind ham wasn't anything to write home about but was challenging solely based on me having hiked so far already.
18:20 summit Windham, find geodetic medallion in the ground, fuel up and head for home.
plenty of sunshine still, made decent time on the way back even while wicked tired.
19:21- hit the trail junction of big hollow and immediately headed down the trail,
19:38- crushed the last 'mile' and made it back to my car,
roundtrip mileage was 16.02
