Ascent Trip ReportAldrich Mountains HP! As others have noted, not a super interesting summit area, but there is a real mix of vegetation along the way and I did see a couple of critters on the way up. Good views from the top - Cascades barely visible & eastward into the Rail Fire haze near Monument Rock. This is one of those peaks that really stands out from the John Day valley & I almost did this one more than 20 years ago. Hiked up from the "lower trailhead" (old 1650-212 jct) so had an extra quarter mile on each end and two more gates to open & close - I see now that it would have helped to read the trip reports to get spot-on driving directions to the fairly obvious trailhead. A hot day for a quick but relentless road/ATV trail hike. (It levels out twice for a few yards, which makes for at least a few strides of relief.) Tempted to continue over to Moore & McClellan, but not up to doing more on a 90+ degree afternoon.
