Ascent Trip Report

We hired a packer to carry our gear to Ice Lake. 900+ vertical feet shy of the lake our packer was confounded by a pair of fallen trees. When our gear didn't arrive we were forced to descend 900+ feet to retrieve our gear. The next day we regained Ice Lake and followed the trail on the north shore, headed for Sacajawea via the Matterhorn climbers trail. By the time we were willing to leave the fairly nice Matterhorn trail and head cross-country toward Sacajawea we were so close to the summit of Matterhorn that we continued on to that summit first. Matterhorn and its trail provides a fascinating variety of rock and vistas. This is a highly recommended peak, even given its diminutive prominence.
