Ascent Trip Report

I joined Summit Sensation Mountaineering Club's Mt Baker climbing trip on Jul 31st to Aug 1st.
Originally, the climbing leader, Scott Maxner, planned it as 4 days climbing until Aug3rd with Aug 2nd as summiting day. But on our summiting day, Aug 2nd, there was 7.1 inches of snow accumulation in summer time! OMG! So he changed the climbing plan and shrank it to 3 days. But after all, it ended up as 1.5 days climbing at the end.

On July 31st, we met at 7AM, ate breakfast, left motel near Seattle airport, drove to the ranger station then Heliotrope Ridge Trail TH which is NorthWest side of Mt Baker. We started climbing around 3:45pm. Reached to Hogsback campsite (5,900 ft elev) around 5:30pm. Searched good tent site which could holds 2 2P tents. Filtered water for dinner and next day climbing, then, setup rope, talked about crevasse rescue theory to refresh our minds, ate and slept.

We woke up 2AM next morning, and started to climb around 3:45am which was 45 mins behind of our schedule. We very slowly ascent with enough taking multiple breaks. It's great sunny day and we successfully summited with Coleman Deming Route (passing through multiple crevasses, Castle Rock Camp and Gargoyle Campsite. The last section, Roman Wall, looked very steep but there was no issues. We reached to the summit around 12:30pm which took us 10.5 hours from Hogsback campsite. After taking some pics, and signed up on summit registration book in Mazama box, we down climbed to the campsite. When we reached to the campsite, the dark clouds were coming in. Also, 2 skiers told us forecast at that evening/night was T-storm. As we didn't want to sleep in T-storm during the night and we didn't want to wrap up tent during rain next morning, we decided to wrap up everything and hike out after climbing was completed. This made us climbing trip from 4 days to 3 days to 1.5 days. But it was successful and a great fun! The GPS tracking data only shows between Hogsback campsite to the summit.
