Ascent Trip Report

A short steep hike on a good trail to a wooded summit.

This is the first hill of a four day weekend in Slovakia focused on Gerlach. Lee and Adrian fly into Vienna and collect Pete and I at Bratislava just after midnight. From BTS this is the closest P600 with the trailhead to the NE a two hour drive.

We stop just before the Chata Pod Inovcom hut and bivvy in/ beside the car. The hut itself is the trailhead (N48.78506° E18.04777° 793m) and next morning in warm sunshine we follow the signed trail up beside a grassy ski piste and through nice woodland to the summit, which is marked by a cairn (N48.77474° E18.04138°, 1032m) beside a trig block. 1km with 250m ascent. Close by is a tall steel tower recently built for telecoms but with stairs accessing a public view point at tree top level, although with mist around, the view is limited.

NOTE: the GPX track extends to the public road.

We next head for Dumbier, the second most prominent peak in Slovakia.
