Ascent Trip ReportAfter an super-alpine start (read 4:30pm) with my 63 year old non-hiker mom and 2 kids, I stepped onto the freshly painted floorboards of the lookout just after 7pm. After tagging what I believed to be the high point, (the rock to the east of the tower)in addition to a couple of other contenders, and snapping some pictures, I caught up with my mom and the boys just minutes after they had stepped off the trail and into the parking lot at the trailhead. They had turned back after the trail crested the ridge and Rainier had come into view. They were all running out of steam and although appropriately armed with working headlamps, they were all worried about getting to the car by sunset. I reached the tower about 15 mins after they turned around. I was not worried about agreeing to them heading down hill without me as this is an exceptionally well traveled trail and the signage is close to excessive. The boys had a great time hiking grandma back to the car and talking her ear off the whole way about their previous peakbagging adventures with James Barlow!
The boys have plans to come back and get the peak in the future, "when Sawyer is old enough to drink coffee."
Such a fun day in the mountains!
