Ascent of Green Mountain on 2016-07-22
|Date:||Friday, July 22, 2016|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8144 ft / 2482 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI ran 4 miles from my hotel to Chautauqua Park, and set out on the trails. I took the Saddle Rock and E.M. Greenman Trails up Green Mountain. From the Green summit, I followed the Green Mtn West Ridge Trail a short distance, and then took the Green Bear Trail down. Then I took the Bear Peak West Ridge Trail up Bear, and continued on the trail to South Boulder Peak. After that, I backtracked to Bear Peak, this time doing the moderately tricky scramble up to the summit. I followed the Fern Canyon Trail down, and eventually followed a series of trails to NCAR, where I arranged to be picked up.
Of all these trais, the Bear Peak West Ridge Trail was my favorite, because of the nice up-close views of Bear and South Boulder Peaks, and plus it wasn't very steep and the footing was good (until near the top).
This was a hot day, which reached the low 90s. I was feeling the effects of the heat during the last few miles.
