Ascent Trip Report

This was a wonderful surprise. I was planning on slogging up a ski slope...but I couldn't find a place to park. So I checked out a trail-head about a quarter of a mile south on Mountain Road. I pulled in and found a brochure with a good map and trails going up the mountain.
This is my suggestion...especially after all the bushwhacking in Maine. You can make a nice loop by going blue, orange, white and back on blue. Or by name, Big Bald to Sue's Way to North Ridge to Big Bald. The North Ridge Trail (white blazes) just about takes you right to the county highpoint. A very small distance later you hit another peak (1905) and when the trail intersects with the Big Bald Trail (blue blazes) again, you can go south for a tenth or two and hit Big Bald. You can turn around here and hike back or continue on to Pleasant Mountain proper. I started my hike at 4pm, so I opted to head back.
The blue and orange trail are kind of steep, however I did the whole thing in shorts and sandals. I did pick off one tick. I had ticks on three of my Maine hikes.
This hike left me three Maine county highpoints left. The theme in Maine is bushwhacking (from hell is some cases) and ticks.
