Ascent Trip ReportA volunteer manning the place told me this was an old roadside pit stop (called a roadhouse, "welcoming weary travelers with crisp linens, cold beverages, hearty meals, and fantastic views" ) built into this nice structure that was preserved to allow these views (up and downstream) of the Columbia River Gorge. There were dozens of people visiting the site, with a 4-person ensemble playing soft music on the first floor, a place to buy food and souvenirs below, and a semi-circular viewing platform upstairs. The parking lot had a line of cars waiting to park in a few spaces, so we continued down the road to park on a gravel pulloff and walk uphill. This may have been ok, but they were towing parked cars down the road where there was a hike to a waterfall, a towee telling me because they had parked with a bit of car on the paved road. |
