Ascent Trip Report

Awesome hike. Bagged the peak with my medium sized dog (an aussie). Well maintained and marked up until the first ledge overlook. After that, you have to hunt a bit for the blazes. Be warned, the trail does get steep and there are some bits that require a scramble. One section has a handy iron-rung ladder. If your dog has trouble with sections like these, take note.

Curiously, the summit proper is not marked although the rest of the trail is. There appear to be two summits that vie for the title. The first is nondescript enough and wooded in. The second, a little further north, has a blazed trail leading to it but requires a small hunt. This second peak is a sharp bald point sticking up and sports views to rival any others on the trail, but most definitely requires a scramble.

The AMC Mountain Guide and the placard at the trailhead try to dissuade from the peak, claiming there are no views and you'd be better served with the outlook turnoffs. Don't listen to them. The peak is awesome.

On the way down I did the additional Hidden Ponds loop. Beautiful and highly recommended.
