Ascent Trip ReportHad a very nice day, to hike up this short trail to the Fire Tower on top of Spruce Mountain. The trail is in great condition (was completed in 2015), very little erosion, lots of beautiful black Adirondack soil. It travels through DEC land and then through the land of a nature conservancy to reach the summit. It's never very steep, gaining about 1000ft in elevation from start to finish. I measured 3.06 miles round trip, but I've read its only 1.3 miles one way. On the way, near the top is a nice fern covered meadow. No views at all from the summit. You have to climb the tower to see the surrounding area, which was spectacular on this day. The tower was recently restored and reopened to the public in 2015. A very enjoyable hike, one that young children can handle.
