Ascent Trip Report

Parked at the parking area just before the the very well-marked PRIVATE PROPERTY NO TRESPASSING area on Beech Mtn Rd. There's a short section of trail (the Flynn trail) to circumvent this area. I followed the old Beech Mtn Rd (now covered in grass, but on a steady but extremely gradual incline) for about 1.7 miles up to the first intersection, which is a 4-way intersection. I took the right (red trail) a short distance until my GPS started pointing into the woods instead of along the trail, then bushwhacked up the hill off to the left. After about 0.2 miles bushwhacking, I came across an ATV trail which isn't marked on Google maps, followed this WNW for a few hundred feet, then it was a steep scramble up to the wooded, view-less summit area. Found the high point pretty much exactly at the coordinates listed on this site. On the way down, I followed the unmarked ATV trail northward after the steep bushwhack down from the summit area. The ATV trail appears to follow a contour line around the southern and western sides of the steeper summit area. There's a nice overlook of Hodge Pond on the western side, marked with a yellow "DANGER" sign. The ATV trail comes out close to the very end of the part of Beech Mtn Rd which is marked on Google Maps. From there, I just followed the road back to the first instersection I mentioned, coming out at that intersection where I would have gone had I continued straight (past a NO SNOWMOBILING sign) when I had first gotten to it. The way I came down is the way I'd recommend for future hikers wanting to climb this one.
