Ascent Trip ReportOn a family vacation, I found myself in Washington visiting some museums. We were staying with a friend in Maryland near the Red Line of the Metro, so I thought I’d stop and pick up the DC high point. We got off at the Tenleytown/AU Metro stop and walked north along Wisconsin Ave. to Chesapeake Street where we passed a baseball diamond. Fort Reno with its interesting turret-like buildings is clearly the highest land around, but it is artificial and anyway behind a barbed wire fence. A short distance to the east on a lower rise by some trees is a benchmark at 409 feet that claims to be the highest natural ground. The peak location should probably be moved here.
