|Date:||Sunday, June 12, 1977|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Pre-eruption Mount Saint Helens|
| Elevation:||9677 ft / 2949 m|
Ascent Trip ReportClimbed via the Dogshead route with my dad, sisters Karen and Lisa and brother Andrew and some friends of Karen and Lisa whose names I don't recall.
Roped up above Dogshead. We had problems with crampons balling up above 8500ft. Andrew got frustrated, but hey he had only just turned 12.
This was our fourth attempt at Mt St Helens -- we had tried the past two Memorial day weekends and ran into high winds and fog at the top of the Dogshead and turned around. One time we actually had St Elmo's fire dancing on the picks of our ice axes -- we headed down very quickly when that happened.
This time we came back a couple weeks later and had better weather.
