Ascent Trip Report

Completed the Welch Dickey Loop on a FANTASTIC CLEAR June day. Over all moderate in comparison to some 4ks. None the less, the last half mile (traveling counter clock wise) from the south ledge of Welch to the summit is a bugger. Lots of slab walking and a lot of up. Take your time and you will be fine. Be VERY cautious of rain as it will make the going very slick.

The views from the south ledge and both summits are simply spectacular! Magnificent views in all directions. This hike is worth the effort in every sense. Great scrambles and plenty of rest periods. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR DOGS AND SMALL CHILDREN if the conditions are right.

When leaving Welch and heading for Dickey be sure to stay left of the blaze markings. From Welch to Dickey is not bad at all. Good Scramble and not to bad on the legs. From Dickey down is really gentle. You are really going to need to pay attention to the blaze painted on the rocks. There are a lot of deer trails up there that look like hiking paths. It would be real easy to get turned around. Again, watch out for rain as it would make that slab granite really slick. Other than that, a truly nice hike all around.
