Ascent Trip Report

The biggest challenge for this peak was getting to the desired trailhead (if one doesn't mind a longer hike one could start out from Cowboy Road with no difficulty). There is a wash just west of the road that goes to the trailhead, and there is no obvious way across. We found a way near the "corral" (area marked as corral on the topo) at 6100' elevation, but we needed to get out of the vehicles to find it.

We chose to take the obvious ridge leading to the summit on the way up. On our way down, we jumped off the ridge early to make a straighter line to the cars. It worked out well on the descent, but because it was steeper and looser, I wouldn't recommend it for the ascent. Towards the top there is a little easy class 3 scrambling- there are more opportunities for it, but the rock is very poor. On the long hike across the (relatively) flat lands, there was particularly nasty grass which fouled up socks and shoes- I'd recommend using desert gaiters or long pants.
