Ascent Trip Report

This was a two day backpack to climb Iron Mountain from the Blue Ridge trailhead via the Devils Backbone trail and San Antonio Ridge. From the trailhead, Rick and I backpacked up the Devils Backbone trail to the top of Mount San Antonio, climbing Pine Mountain and Dawson Peak along the way. From the summit, we went down San Antonio Ridge to the base of Iron Mountain, climbing West Baldy, Peak 7903 and San Antonio Ridge along the way. Rick didn't like the look of the 3rd class on Iron Mountain, so we dropped off the ridge and ended up spending the night at the Gold Dollar Mine. The next day, we backpacked out to the East Fork of the San Gabriel River via Dry Gulch, Coldwater Canyon and the Heaton Flat trail. Trip stats include ascents of all 6 peaks.
