Ascent Trip Report

I climbed this peak on a Friday using Dennis' track and didn't see anyone. The area has not seen active logging for many years since the bridge crossing the Eel River that logging trucks used is gone. The lower and upper parts of the road have some recent ATV tracks, but some areas in the center have waist-high grass. The cabin Dennis mentions is in bad shape and not used. After crossing the rail bridge, which has a gate now to block ATV's, I suggest continuing another 1/4 mile north to where the track is heavily overgrown. There is a track going east that connects to the road at a switchback. UTM on the track at the point is: 422313E, 4467715N, NAD27. This adds 1/2 mile to the overall route, but is much safer and simpler than going up or down the 30 foot cliff near the bridge as Dennis did and I did also on the ascent. The hike took me 4 1/4 hours up and 4 1/2 hours down and is about 19 miles. I think the elevation gain is about 3900 to 4000 feet.
