Ascent Trip Report

Spaulding is easily attacked from the AT and we got it from the junction near Sugarloaf; thus, getting a twofer in the 4000 foot peak list. Despite the ease of getting the second one, there is a lot of up and down sawtooth hiking along the ridge of the AT in this stretch. The vertical drop along the east side of the ridge is steep. Unlike, Sugarloaf and Abraham, there is no view at the top of this peak and to really bum you out - even though it is on the 4000 foot list, there is a sign at the top saying it is actually something like 3,996 feet or something like that. Then it started to sprinkle on us. The rain was coming. We checked our watches. We had already hiked over 6 miles and a lot more to go but we were still making good time.
