Ascent Trip Report

After a little skiing by the summit of Powder Ridge Pass, we saw a sign pointing towards a fire tower that said visitors were welcome. We drove off of the paved road, and in a couple minutes, we were at the TH. The walk was pretty quick on a winding muddy trail, probably only recently free of snow. There were even steps near the top. To our disappointment, the fire tower was locked and no one was there. So much for "visitor's welcome". I did find, however, that the basement was open. We didn't have any business there, though, and just took in the views for a few minutes. We could see what Artski calls "one of the best beginner runs" in skiing - the meadow at Meadowlark Ski Lodge. We also had a good view to the south and of the rocky summit of the Big Horns to the north. On the way down I scrambled down some big boulders with some rough hand holds which didn't save time, but was enjoyable. Two other people were heading up while we headed down.
