Ascent Trip Report

For those of you who have climbed Munra Point in the Columbia River Gorge, this is essentially Munra Point on crack in terms of elevation gain. You gain almost 1600 feet starting from an unofficial climbers trail at the big pull off area 4/10ths of a mile down on NF-470. There is no "official trail" to the top, but due to its significance to the peakbagging community being a P2K and a CoHP, there is enough traffic that climbers have beaten an unmaintained trail to the summit. The trail is a bit overgrown and hard to follow in some places but people have tied pink, orange, and yellow tape to trees and bushes most of the way up making it fairly easy to follow and navigate. The trail is quite steep - almost 3rd class in some places. It is very much worth the climb as it has an incredible view of Mount Saint Helen's along with Adams, Hood, and Rainier.

I followed Summitpost's directions to the "Trailhead" and they are solid.

We managed to get our low clearance, 2WD Corolla with 220,000 miles within .24 miles of the "trailhead". That being said, I would recommend a vehicle with mid to high clearance to get to the point at which our car could go no further as Summitpost is not incorrect in its directions when it says "this road features world class pot-holes". You would need a high clearance and probably 4WD vehicle to get you the last .24 miles to the TH due to the road being a having a short washed out section with deep ruts.
