Ascent Trip Report

This was a solo hike of these 3 Lower Peaks and one PB peak. They finally open the Bedford Motorway so I was able to drive up to the Main Truck Divide Road. The motorway was rough in spots but doable with a high clearance vehicle and a good engine. It is 6 miles, with the first 2 miles paved. I exited 15 at Weirick, turned left at Knabe, drove ½ mile to the Bedford Motorway. There were a number of signs saying private road, but they seem to indicate you can’t park on the road. But it is ok to drive through. Anyway, no one stopped me. Once to the top, I turned left and drove SE about a mile to the base of Bald. Just past Bald, there is an old jeep road that leads the short distance to the summit. On the summit, I found a register, geocache and benchmark.
I then returned to the junction of Bedford Motorway and Main Truck Divide road. Here I had to park as the road is closed going toward Bedford. From this point I started hiking the road, first to Peak 3840. This is actually a closed area due to the Silverado Fire, but I was told by the ranger it was ok to hike the road. 3840 is just off the road. On the summit I found a directional benchmark that had been torn up when they made the fire break. Could not find the benchmark.
After 3840, I continued on to Bedford. I had a problem finding Bedford, so I decided to continue on the road to Pleasant. For Pleasant, the actual summit is a bump just east of the communication towers. There was a steep use trail that led to the summit. There was a sign on the summit, but no register or BM.
On the way back from Pleasant, I finally figured out where Bedford was. As the peak guide describes, it is ½ mile northeast of the junction of the Silverado Trail and Main Truck Divide road. On the way out I saw the firebreak the guide talks about. A little past it is a use trail that leads to the summit. On the summit I found a register and about 100 yards past it, a bench. It was placed there in honor of someone named Gary. He apparently really liked the view.
I returned up the road to my vehicle and drove down Bedford Motorway to the freeway.

Total for the day: 15.75 miles round trip, 3565’ gain. 8 hours, 50 minutes.
