Ascent Trip Report

This was a solo hike of this DPS peak. It was my 3rd attempt. They say the 3rd time is the charm and it was. The first time I didn’t have good maps or a route and didn’t get anywhere near it. The 2nd time I got within 300’ of the summit and ran into a wall I couldn’t figure out how to get around.
From Laughlin I went north on 163 about 8 miles to the Christmas Tree Pass road. I then drove 8,4 miles on this very good dirt road to on old jeep road and parked. I hiked up the jeep road until it petered out then headed northeast towards a saddle. At the saddle I found a duck and the start of a use trail. I followed this use trail down a ridge to a post painted white in a gully. There was a monument marker at the base of the post. I dropped into the gully, then up and over 3 ridges. I was generally following a use trail with an occasional duck. After the 3rd ridge I dropped into a gully turned right and picked up a ducked use trail. This trail is well ducked all the way to the summit. In a few places I couldn’t find a duck but the trail was obvious. It generally follows a northeast direction. The last duck leads you to a wall. There was a notch in the wall and it was a 3rd class climb to go up and over and drop down into a gully. It was then a short climb to the summit. On the summit I found a ammo box register and a benchmark. I returned the same way.
