Ascent of Tumtum Peak on 2016-05-21Date: | Saturday, May 21, 2016 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Tumtum Peak | Location: | USA-Washington | Elevation: | 4678 ft / 1425 m |
Ascent Trip ReportScramble to the top of Tumtum Peak. We took the Kautz Creek trail to about 3000 ft, then scrambled the rest of the way off-trail up to the forested summit at 4,678 ft.
Kautz Creek trail is in good shape (as far as we went on it)-- the Park Service has done a great job of clearing the debris from winter storms. The last time I was up here (in January), there were a ton of obstacles and it was really hard to follow the trail through all of the snow and blowdowns. No snow this time!
Trip took us about three hours up and two down. No views, but since this was a cloudy/rainy day that wasn't too big a deal. We saw a total of about six other hikers on the trail and none at all off trail. |
