Ascent Trip Report

Starting in Preston Notch coming from the south.

After crossing the brook we starting ascending the main peak of Higby. This is a more steady climb without the large steps up the rock face that characterized the ascent of the south peak. There are still some steep sections though.

There are two possible locations for the highest point, but they are both close by to the trail and without a direct line of sight to compare them.

The rest of the trip is a mostly steady descent into the valley. There is a spot where the old Mattabesset Trail heads up toward a third lower peak, but the new trail avoids this third ascent. There are some low spots on the trail where water has pooled and also spots where it is running. There is also some spots where you are walking on broken rock that is hard on tired ankles.
