Ascent Trip ReportWhat should have been an easy peak to bag turned out to be a disappointment when I reached the top of an access road to the west of the summit and discovered that I would need to bushwhack through waist high thorny bushes to claim this highpoint. I was probably within 40 yards of the top. My wife, Geri, and I were on day number 38 of hiking El Camino de Santiago and had reached "Monumento do Peregrino" at the saddle of San Roque, which is 1270 meters. Directly across highway LU-633 is an overgrown dirt road that climbs on the west side of Alto San Roque. By following this road to its apex, you can get within 40 yards to the west of the summit, but it will be an extremely uncomfortable bushwhack through rather nasty thorny bushes. I was not motivated enough to suffer the discomfort of being stabbed hundreds of times by vegetation, so my wife and I returned to our primary goal of hiking to Santiago.
