Ascent Trip ReportThe moral of this tale is that a permit is essential to summit Teide....
Three weeks before going to Tenerife, I checked the national park website. Teide paths closed due to snow and no permits available until late May. Expecting to be able to get a permit on arrival oink these circumstances, or be told they did not apply when the trails were closed, I found instead that they had simply all been booked and the cable car was still running. So I walked from the trailhead over Montana Blanca, past the refuge and over a deep snowfield, which was amusing to climb, as far as the gate to the permit-controlled summit trail at La Rambleta before taking the cable car back down.
