Ascent Trip Report

This turned out to be the best of the CHPs in the area. The one I worried about the most turned out to be the best hike and easiest to stay out of private land issues. I parked on N 20 E but down slope of the radio tower turn out in the bend of the road where there were no houses and a big wide shoulder to pull off. I guess this low point in the road to be around elevation 1070.

I then hiked up to the tower maintenance road and wondered how to bushwhack to the peak? I headed east out of the fenced tower site and found a pass into a big open field that shows up on the aerial and you see a deer stand to the left. Not wanting to be shot, I swung south and immediately discovered a 4-wheel trail. I followed this trail south through the woods passing more elevated elaborate deer shooting platforms and noticing I was following behind the houses to the west. Eventually the trail leads to end of the natural ground next to the mining operation and the highpoints that remain and not chewed away by mining are obvious in this area.

As for all the information about garages etc far up the road, I just avoided all that with this approach. The land seemed to be in some sort of public trust??? not sure so I drove out and parked at a small parking area east of the residential street right off W 400 N. There are public hiking tails in this tract of land (just east of the woods that I hiked through) that may or may not be connected to the trail area I was on. It would be interesting to see if you can park in that public parking-hiking area and hike all the way up there. But if not, this approach worked just fine
