Ascent Trip Report

After an ascent of Frisco peak earlier in the day we decided to tag this little gem on the drive home. The Crickets are a improbably beautiful area in the spring. A fuzz of green was everywhere and we arrived at the summit just before sunset as the parallel up thrusts and westward facing cliffbands that form the Crickets lit up and faded with the sun. The views over Lake Sevier are the best to be found and you can glimpse the dazzlingly white Crystal mountain and the upper section of Notch mountains epic cliff face as well as the Wasatch from Timpanogas to the Tushars and Brian Head. The open country and lack of talus made for a pleasant stroll.

Pro tip! Just below the summit to the west there is a terrace above the cliffs with good camping for 1-2 tents that directly overlooks the amazing views of Lake Sevier to the west. Although more difficult to get to the next terrace down appears to have even more good spots though you would have to traverse in from the side. Given the easy nature of this hike I thought it was worth mentioning as it is an amazing location that should be savored despite the relatively low vertical stature of this range. There is no water source of course, but afternoon hike in to watch the sunset and getting to wake up in such a location for a morning hike out would not need much and sounds like time well spent to me.
