Ascent Trip Report

Decided on a recon mission for a future Mt Index trip. The night before looked at TRs and different aspects to decide the best route. That helped zero since the morning was so socked in with fog, visibility was nil. We sat at lunch rock on Lake Serene and couldn't see more than 20 feet of the lake.

So we decided to find some steep snow and climb around, practice some snow anchors, etc. Got to the bottom of the cliffs, belayed out of the moat, swung some axes, glissaded...

Watched some 18-20 year olds trying to fish a cell phone out of the semi-frozen lake. It was in a waterproof case, in about 8 feet of depth. You could see it underwater from the bottom of the lunch rock. 2 guys tried. Peeled down to their boxers, standing to their necks in the frozen water, trying to get around the to the cell phone. To no avail. But it was entertaining for us to eat lunch and watch them try, it was like a tv show.
