Ascent Trip ReportNice day, not much to see at the summit itself other than a benchmark but the trail up is cool. Parked on VA 603 on the north side of the mountain and went up the Appalachian Trail, then followed the blue blazes. At the crest of the AT there's a big open space where one of the wild ponies from Grayson Highlands State Park had wandered up the mountain... he let us touch the top of his head and feed him but didn't like being touched below the neck and tried to kick us. Definitely seems like it's a little longer than the 4 miles they tell you... I'd guess at least 5, maybe even 5.5. Met several NoBo thru-hikers on the way up, suppose it's still a bit early in the season to meet any SoBo hikers this far south.
