Ascent Trip ReportParked in the parking lot for the Peaked Mountain portion of the Trustee Land. The address that I typed into my car's GPS was 138 Butler Road in Monson. The parking lot is nicely sized and there are picnic tables and benches in the area for family outings.
Followed Roslyn's Turnpike (red blaze) up the mountain. This trail is well marked with signs marking each intersection showing a numerical designation and a map of the area. The trail is really wide and I passed several people out with their dogs and kids. When I reached the main junction of the red blazed trail (intersection #7) I followed Bernie Ave to the left, then continued to follow the red blazes to the summit of the hill.
At the summit, there are great views toward the east and southeast which would be beautiful during the foliage season. I will have to remember that and bring a nice camera up for pictures. There is a USGS survey marker at the top, but there were a couple of spots that looked like they might be a little higher. Touched those as well.
For the trip down I took the Valley View trail (red blaze) across the south side of the mountain. This trail goes across some rocks that can result in some rather long steps if you aren't careful, and might be dangerous if the surface was very wet. As the name implies, there are some nice views of the valley south of the mountain. There are also some nice veins of quartz in the rock surfaces.
Rejoined the trail down at intersection #7, but followed the yellow blazed Butternut Road trail for half of the way. This trail is the path less taken but it rejoins the "Turnpike" just at the parking lot.
