|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||1200 ft / 365 m|
Ascent Trip Report This was a private hike with Pat Vaughn, Bruce Craig and Gigi (Bruce’s little puppy). We met at Lot #2 in the Upper Merry-go-round in Griffith Park. Directions were north on 5 to Griffith Park exit, and at the stop sign turn right (north) on Crystal Spring. After a mile, at a 4 way stop with Ranger Station on the right, turn left (west). Follow the road through Parking Lot #1 to Lot #2.
From this point we started up a road towards Bee Rock. There are numerous trails and roads throughout Griffith so a good map is necessary. Both Bruce and Pat do this route as a conditioning hike so they were very familiar with our route. From Bee, we went up and over Mt. Chapel, then down to a road, walking past Mt. Lee and on to Cahuenga. From Cahuenga, we walked out to Burbank Peak. Beside the lone tree, someone (or many someone’s) had built a bunch of cairns and left note on them. There was also a register on the summit. Here we took a break.
From Burbank, we went back over Cahuenga and down to the road to Mt. Lee. On Mt. Lee, you cannot get to the actual peak as it is all fenced in. The Hollywood Sign is just below Mt. Lee. From Mt. Lee, we went back toward Chapel and took a trail that traversed Chapel and down to a road toward the Bell’s. We went up Mt. Bell on the northwest side and down and over to Little Bell. I had taken the coordinates from Peakbagger for a peak that is called Taco. This waypoint was about 265’ from the start of the use trail to Little Bell. We think that the peak called Taco is actually Little Bell.
From Little Bell we went down to the road and followed the road to Hollywood. From Hollywood, it was back down the road and on to Hogback, then Glendale. To reach Glendale, you cross a bridge to a signed trail to the summit. From Glendale, we walked back to the start of trail then followed the road to Beacon Hill our last summit. From Beacon Hill it was a steep use trail down to a road that ran along the 5 freeway to parking Lot #2.
All of the benchmarks we saw had Burbank on them, those that we could read. Only Glendale had a benchmark that read Glendale.
