Ascent Trip Reportxcountry/track to 2 areas .... 1 1/4 mile. 40 minutes RT.
I followed Ken Oeser TR, my route is a tad different. This county has 2 candidate high point areas, both on the same N-S ridge.
From I-40, exit 254, Rose and I went south on Hwy #53 for about 1.5 miles to a right turn on Pigeon Roost Road, 1.1 mile west turned left onto Fuller Hollow Road, .7 miles south turned right at T-Junction onto Rural Academy Road, .4 miles south turned right onto driveway #200 (large black MB named "Bryan"). We followed the westerly winding driveway .3 miles to the house with door signs "Welcome" and "Peace", greeted by a friendly dog.
Rose smiling, "Those are nice signs, they'll be friendly for sure." ..... she'd turn out to be right.
The HP ridge is above a short distance to the west.
Rachel Bryan was not aware that they slept just below the High Point of the county. She had no problem with me accessing her land, "Go behind the house, there is a gate in the fence."
From behind/north-side of the house I walked the grass pasture land (past a small pond) 400 yards northwest to the woods, where I picked up an animal path of sorts, along an old E-W fence line, that took me west 300 yards to the ridge (with a track). I turned right on the track for 60 yards to the Northern-most Area ... the high ground somewhat obvious (36.14288,-86.06129).
I then went right-of-south along the ridge 400 Yards to the Southern-most Area ... again the high ground somewhat obvious (36.14027,-86.06351).
I short cutted my return, I descended 1/2 mile directly to the house in 13 minutes. The woods are open with little underbrush, fairly good footing.
I went to the house to thank Rachel. We had a nice long chat about county high pointing and country life in general. She was very appreciative of learning about county High pointing. They introduced their 2 children to geocaching and perhaps they'll look into county high pointing. "My husband will be very interested in this."
I left the "Peakbagger" data page with her and told her about "County Highpointers Association", "We'll definitely look into it." Learning about county high pointing, reading topo maps, taking GPS readings, etc. will be a good education for the kids .... besides being a real fun thing.
Rachel is a friendly hospitable person.
"ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END."
