Ascent Trip ReportA road and xcountry hike southbound ..... 2 1/2 mile, 1:15 hours RT.
We approached from Darrouzett, TX. (JCT #15/FM2248), deciding to visit this Hill on-route to the Harper COHP, OK. We drove north on FM2248 to the TX/OK State Line where we continues north on NS151 for 1 mile to a right turn on the dirt Road EW34, 3.7 miles west we turned right on unsigned/ungated Service Road (topo names it N548), which services 2 oil wells. It was too rough for our van (needs high clearance), so this was my TH. High clearance will cut the hike in half.
Distances I give here are estimates only.
I walked the road south 1/2 mile to a fork where I stayed left, at 200+ yards te road bends left (east), I stayed straight xcountry (with paths of sorts) that took me south to the top of the butte directly to the summit at 1 1/4 mile from the TH. The steep slope of the butte is short and easy.
I was rewarded with great views, well worth the effort.
