Ascent Trip ReportThis was a private hike with George Christiansen, Miriam Khamis, and Pat Arredondo. We took the Mt. Wilson Trail to Orchard Camp. Driving directions exit 210 at Baldwin, go north to Miria Monte, turn right, go 2 blocks and park. There is a restroom at the trail head. We followed the trail about 3.5 miles to Orchard Camp. The trail is in excellent shape and very pretty. Only one other Peakbagger has been to this peak. He did it twice in 2002. With his description, maps and our GPS’s we were able to summit the peak. We were expecting a lot of brush, but fortunately were able to avoid it. We crossed the creek, headed north to a ridge. From here, we headed southeast, dropping in a gully, then traversing around and dropping steeply in a gully that runs northeast and is just west of Lookout. At this point we were at about 3000’. This gully was clear and easy to hike. When we were at a point due west of the summit, we started up a steep, loose slope where we found a trail. We followed this trail a short distance to the summit. All we found on the summit was an old can, no register or benchmark. We placed a new register. What was interesting was when we were on this trail, we found evidence of recent cutting. Someone has been there recently. On the return, we followed this trail, but we weren’t quite sure where it was going, so we dropped back in to the gully and returned the same way. All and all it was a beautiful day and a tough but great hike, especially since we didn’t run into a lot of brush.
